The facecard prepaid MasterCard®, issued by MetaBank, is a stored value card that can be used anywhere MasterCard® debit cards are accepted. It is a convenient and cost effective method to manage your spending habits, receive gifts, and even utilize peer-to-peer payments. facecard helps protect you from overdraft fees with features such as: daily balance and low-balance notifications, and balance inquiries via text message. Additionally, facecard has established an ongoing education series that includes the "Get Smart, Get More" campaign that helps members improve their financial management skills.

facecard offers completely fee-free methods for enrolling in the card and loading funds. Activating the card is free, and loading funds directly from a bank account - either as a one-time transaction or a recurring fund transfer - is also free. Loads to a facecard completed through the ACH network are done at no charge, and funds sent from one facecard to another facecard are also free.

facecard differs from ordinary debit cards because you can gift money to friends & family with ease; parents can electronically send allowances or emergency funds to their children; and you can withdraw money from ATMs worldwide displaying the MasterCard, Maestro, Cirrus, or Pulse symbols. It is safer than cash, since you will not be liable for any unauthorized transactions if your facecard is lost or stolen, and you follow the instructions for reporting a missing card outlined in your member agreement.

What are the requirements to obtain a facecard prepaid MasterCard®?

facecard is only available to US citizens who are 13 years of age or older. In order to properly complete your application, you will be required to enter:

1) Your name
2) Your address, including city and state
3) Your social security number
4) A home or cell phone number
5) Your email address

Parents may enroll their children, who are 13 years of age or older, by providing the above information, and designating themselves as the “Master Account Holder” for the card, if their child is under 18 years of age. The name of your child will be embossed on the card.

What are the requirements for accessing my account?

To access your facecard account online, you will need to know the following information submitted during your application:

1) Email Address
2) Date of Birth (MM/DD/YYYY)
3) Password

Parents can access their children's account by entering the same information as above.

Does facecard check my credit, or affect my FICO credit score?

No. Your social security number will be used only to verifiy your identity.

Does facecard help my credit history, or help establish my child's credit?

No. It is not an unsecured credit card.

How long does it take to receive my facecard?

Your facecard will be mailed to your account address within 7-10 business days after completing your application. The card will arrive in an envelope containing a carrier - which is a one-page document with instructions on how to activate your card by phone. Your facecard will be affixed to the carrier. There will also be a temporary passcode on the carrier, which you will need in order to create a PIN number.

In order to use your facecard to access ATMs, you will need a PIN number. When you activate your facecard by phone, this step is included. For this call only, you will use your temporary passcode to set-up your PIN number. The envelope will also include your cardholder agreement.

For how long is my facecard valid?

Your facecard expires three years from the date of issue. Your expiration date will be printed on the card.

How do I load my facecard?

You can load your facecard online in 3 ways. (Make sure you have your 16-digit facecard card number handy.)

1) Send money by using a credit or debit card - funds will be available within 15 minutes
2) Send money from a facecard account - funds will be available within 15 minutes
3) Send money from a bank account - funds will be available within 3-5 days

You may add funds to your card, called "value loading", at any time. The amount of each value load must be at least $10.00. However, the maximum value load you may place on your card when combined with any other cards you have authorized is $2500. The maximum balance of your facecard cannot exceed $2500.

Can I send money to another facecard member with my card?

Yes. You can send money, or gift money, to any other facecard account online.

Can I use my facecard internationally?

Yes. Your facecard is accepted worldwide at most merchants that accept MasterCard® debit cards.

Can I make a purchase for more than the amount remaining on my facecard?

Yes, but only if the merchant is able to process a “split transaction”. You must tell the merchant the amount you would like to pay on your facecard, and then pay the outstanding amount first with another form of payment. If you do not have sufficient funds on your facecard to make a purchase, your card will be declined unless you request a “split transaction” to cover the purchase.

What happens when I spend all the funds on my facecard?

If you do not have sufficient funds on your account to make a purchase, your card will be declined. You can reload your facecard online at any time using either a credit card, debit card, or a checking account. As stated above, when loading from a credit or debit card, your funds will be available to you within 15 minutes. When loading via a bank account, it will take 3 to 5 business days for your funds to be available.
